BCM56840 Series
BCM56840 Series Enables Mass Deployment of 10GbE in the Data Center
The Broadcom® BCM56840 is a series of 40nm multi-layer Ethernet switch devices that enable faster connectivity between servers in the data center. Previously, only very large corporations and research organizations have had the resources to build data centers with high performance 10GbE switches that connect directly to servers. The BCM56840 series changes these economics. The series has ultra low power, low latency and provides up to 64-ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet with the flexibility to support 40 Gigabit Ethernet.
Now any data center - regardless of size - can take advantage of the power of cloud computing.
The BCM56840 series can be used as a foundation element to build next generation top-of-rack switches, blade switches and modular switches. These switches can be tied together to deliver a highly scalable network, interconnecting thousands of servers for enterprise, as well as cloud provider data centers. The series supports converged networking which allows for the unification of storage and networking under one technology with lossless Ethernet.
Broadcom's data center portfolio provides highly integrated, low power devices for every step of the network with the latest protocols and features supporting LAN and SAN convergence
The BCM56840 series joins Broadcom's other complementary silicon solutions for the data center, including products obtained through the recent acquisition of Dune Networks:
- BCM84834 - 40nm Quad-port 10GBASE-T PHY
- BCM57712 - 10GbE Dual-port Converged NIC
- BCM8754 - 10GbE SFP+ PHY
